X for Anisha Di(X)it

After Captain Nick and Mostly Sane, the next lady YouTuber spreading laughter and awareness related to issues/taboos that women face through her videos is Anisha Dixit. Anisha is more popularly known as Rickshawali though recently, she has re-branded her YouTube channel to her name. Born in Germany, this Mumbai-based witty content-creator is famous for creating a handful of characters in her comedy sketch videos. Dadi is one of the most loved characters though it is Anisha playing all the roles in different get-ups in her comedy v/s videos. She has immortalized the words ‘Hai Daiyya’ through her unique way of delivering the phrase.

Anisha has collaborated with famous Bollywood stars like Priyanka Chopra, Karthik Aryan, Sara Ali Khan, Rajkummar Rao and well-known YouTubers like  Lily Singh, Technical Guruji,  Mumbiker Nikhil, Captain Nick among many others. She also uploads funny videos of prank calls to her Youtube colleagues and Bollywood stars.  She addresses her followers as ‘rickstars’ who feel delighted by her amusing and entertaining content. But it also worth mentioning that she has faced quite a lot of struggles in life before reaching the zenith of success today. That’s why her straight-talk videos speaking about the journey of her life make her comes across as an honest and straight-forward personality.

Last December, she was invited as part of a panel discussing women empowerment with former American President Barack Obama in Singapore. She also runs a second channel simply Anisha Dixit where she posts about fashion, lifestyle, travel vlogs and other personal content.

T for CarryMina(T)i

Creating content that roasts people, movies, performances, and other topics have become a rage for the last couple of years. Carry Minati rose to fame with his videos dissing cringe-worthy content since he was 16-years-old. Though he began posting videos at the age of 10, he rose to success with roast and parody videos. The work of this 21-year-old YouTuber is high in humor quotient though it isn’t devoid of profanity.

Carry Minati aka Ajey Nagar is a content creator, comedian, rapper and gamer. It is not just the choice of words that make his videos fun to watch but it is also his lively expressions and relevant voice modulation that add spark to the fun. Speaking in Hindi, his standard way of introduction ‘to kaise hai aap log?’ in all the videos has become a trademark identity for this talented artist.

Carry is famous for his series of videos roasting Gujjar boys, singer Dhinchak Pooja, singer Om Prakash, self-styled Godman Baba Ram Rahim Singh Insan, shows like Big Boss and Pakistani roadies, and apps like TikTok and Vigo among many others. He also runs a gaming channel Carryislive.

In 2018, he was also invited to interview Tom Cruise and Henry Cavill for their movie Mission: Impossible – Fallout in India. He won the Impactful Influencer of the year in 2019 at the MTV IWM Buzz Digital Awards. In 2019, he also featured in the list of ‘Next Generation Leaders’ worldwide by the TIME magazine.

R for Random Chikibum

Random Chikibum is a comedy channel run by the multitalented stand-up comedians, content creators and actors, Rahul Subramanian and Kumar Varun. Their focus was to create light-hearted web-series and sketches based on the life of corporate employees. Drawing inspiration from their experiences, the ex-colleagues explore the nuisances of the corporate world in their witty and satirical style through the series of Random Daftar and Chota Random.

This channel also features stand-up videos by Rahul Subramanian. He is such a versatile performer that even the modulation of his voice tone can make the audience roll with laughter. His content is intelligently humourous. A special mention to the unscripted crowd work videos that he has been uploading of late. Rahul interacts with a live audience and creates jokes on the spot based on his interactions with them. It takes an uber-creative and supremely confident artist to explore such spontaneous acts of comedy. He has also featured in multiple videos of AIB and web series like Pushpavalli. He made his debut on Amazon Prime with his solo stand-up special called ‘Kal Mein Udega’.

Kumar Varun is a well-known name in the comedy circuit. He has made appearances in AIB videos, Behti Naak series by Sumukhi Suresh, and acted in web series like Better Life Foundation, Chacha Vidhayak Hai Humara, and Pushpavalli. Very recently, he took to experimenting with stand-up comedy. He re-defines the ease with which a joke can be cracked without displaying too many emotions. He is a natural performer and an effortless humorist.

This is the eighteenth post in the Blogchatter A2Z challenge based on the theme ‘Laugh in the time of Corona.’ I hope to see you tomorrow when I divulge the details of the stand-up comedian getting featured in my post for ‘S’.

You can read the previous posts in the series here. Here’s a video from Rahul’s stand-up comedy that is also one of my personal favorites. Despite watching it more than fifty times, it never fails to make me laugh out loud.

Q for Aash(Q)een

Aashqeen, who runs a YouTube channel by the same name is known for his brand of comedy videos. While his visual content has a strong North Indian flavor, it is also worth mentioning that he steers clear of profanity or vulgarity in them.  His videos revolve around youth-centric themes yet there are subtle messages of body positivity, the need for unity in diversity and also makes an effort to smash gender stereotypes. It isn’t easy creating humorous content around religion but this accomplished creator has managed to bridge the divide.  This charming man with a heartwarming smile has immortalized the role of Bhaiyyaji in the Inteqam series, especially in his stunt of using the JCB machine in one of his videos.

While the majority of his videos are of the types of boys v/s girls in various scenarios, he has created quite a few memorable characters like Lul as well. Very recently, he explored the genre of web series with a show called Superstar.  Aashqueen has collaborated with big names like Ashish Chanchlani, The Bong Guy aka Kiran Dutta among many others. Barkha Sethi and Dikshant Negi are two actors featured regularly in his videos who also head various departments of his channel.

His inspiring journey from facing failure to achieving success can be viewed as part of the TEDx talks.

M for Mostly Sane

Mostly Sane is the official YouTube channel of one of India’s leading YouTube sensations ‘Prajakta Koli.’ Her channel was my introduction to content-driven YouTube shows. This hard-working and super-talented RJ turned YouTuber is a force to reckon with. Her disciplined schedule of uploading videos every Tuesday (real talks), Thursday (sketch comedies based on her observation of people around her) and Saturday (QnA or video interviews with celebrities) makes her one of the most consistent creators as well. She is often found uploading vlogs based on her travel diaries and personal experiences.

She has represented India at the YouTubers ‘Creators for Change’ summit through which she met Michelle Obama recently to discuss on education for girls. Recently, she made her foray into YouTube originals with her show ‘Pretty Fit’ that featured a host of celebrities like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Sanya Malhotra and Sumukhi Suresh among others. Prajakta was part of Forbes ’30 under 30′ list in 2019.

While Prajakta has created various characters for her sketch comedies, her most famous creation happens to be a teenager called Montu, introduced as the younger brother of Prajakta in the comedy videos. Montu is so popular that the audience (who Prajakta addresses as Dumdums lovingly) has started asking for Montu special videos now. She has collaborated with the biggest names in Youtube community like Bhuvan Bam, Ashish Chanchchlani, Mumbiker Nikhil and many more.

This is the thirteenth post in the Blogchatter A2Z challenge based on the theme ‘Laugh in the time of Corona’. Stay tuned to know the details of the stand-up comedian getting featured in my post for N tomorrow.

You can read all the posts in this series here. Watch Prajakta play multiple roles in this hilarious video based on the life of a typical middle-class family.

J for Jordindian

I chanced upon the YouTube channel of Jordinidian when one of their videos came as a recommendation on a different comedy channel. Two friends, Nasser Azzeh from Jordan and Vineeth Kumar aka ‘Beep’ from India created this channel to showcase funny sketch comedy videos. They have a huge collection of hilarious videos in the categories of ‘Types of’ (savage dads, savage moms, friends, students, and many more). In the past couple of years, they also experimented with a couple of music videos, out of ‘smoke shisha, play Fifa’ anthem became a viral sensation.

This channel has become my personal favorite because of the Bangalore connection. Having spent more than a decade in Karnataka (Bangalore and Mysore), their accent, observation of the happenings in the city and the South Indian culture feels familiar, relatable and on point. However, what makes them unique is that they exercise caution not to stereotype characters in their sketches. It is also commendable that their content is devoid of offensive and abusive language, making their videos a perfect watch for families.

This is the 10th post in the Blogchatter A2Z series under the theme ‘Laugh in the time of Corona’. I hope to see you on Monday when I reveal the name of the stand-up comedian getting featured in my post for ‘K’.
