Cee’s Odd Ball Photo Challenge- February 18,2018 is about those photographs that don’t fall into any common category. This picture was taken in one of the Kolkata fairs held in the month of December. The young lad is walking with his feet tied to long bamboo sticks. These artificial legs are known as ‘ronpa’ in Bengali (one of the languages in India). People visiting the fair, specially little kids were amused by this unusually tall man while he was enjoying all the attention.
The theme for the Weekly Photo Challenge is Sweet for the current week. As per the rules, the photo can either be of something or someone sweet. So, I thought of featuring one of the sweetest relationships in my family – the bond shared between a grandfather and his grandson.
This picture was taken in Dec 2017, when we took off for a family vacation in Mandarmoni, India. The toddler loves swings but he was scared of hurting himself due to a fall. His paternal grandpa (on the left) and maternal granddad (on the right) held his hand from both the sides while he enjoyed his ride. Their presence was enough for him to rise up and high.
Last week, I was pleasantly surprised to see my nomination for The Sunshine Blogger Award by The Average Aspirant . -Says the reel life PadMan during his speech at the United Nations in the movie. This weekend Mrs. Funnybones brought alive the roller coaster life journey of India’s menstrual man Arunachalam Muruganantham on-screen through a courageous and sincere venture called PadMan.
I stumbled upon this weekly photo challenge just a while ago. The topic for this week is Tour Guide – What do you love about where you live? I was born in the capital of Bengal – Kolkata or Calcutta as the city of Joy used to be referred to as earlier but I grew up in a small town of Bengal called Berhampore. After my plus two, I moved cities for higher education and then for job assignments but whenever I use the word home, it always means Berhampore. It still does. The town is a part of the heritage district of Murshidabad.
This week of Cee’s Fun Foto Challengehas the letter Y. This is part of the Alphabet with a twist series and the rules state that it needs to start or end with the letter Y or in the caption for the photo “Why” needs to be present. We have traveled back to my home town for a couple of weeks and the toddler is getting to spend a lot of time with both his paternal grandparents and my Dad. Winter is on a backward retreat mode.
Today morning we were trying to go a little creative with the games while playing on the sun-kissed veranda floor of the house I grew up in. Dad had just laid out freshly cleaned raw vegetables. The toddler insisted on using the potatoes, tomatoes, pea-pods and his crayons to make a pattern. So I made the alphabet ‘Y’ using the vegetables and he tried picking it up using his set of crayons. I remember coaxing my Mum to do the same during my growing up years. Through today’s play session, I realized how small moments in motherhood can indeed be a way of reminiscing my childhood.

After the Blogger Appreciation Award, it came as a pleasant surprise when a fellow blogger The Average Aspirant nominated me for this award. I feel humbled. Please check out her blog – she has amazing motivational posts along with some very interesting reads.
We are already into February – the month of love. Do you remember the first February that we spent together after years of not being in touch with each other . The year was 2010 – you loathed traveling then. Yet you took a flight from Kolkata to Bangalore and then a bus to Mysore for a non-stop journey of ten hours only because you wanted to surprise me. You ended up proposing me for marriage as well. More than the beautiful orchids, chocolates and books that you got me as gifts, I remember you drinking cups of coffee just to give me company during those five hours that we spent talking to each other. I was a caffeine junkie while you were coffee intolerant. Yet you didn’t let your discomfort take precedence over my happiness.
This is the first time that I am participating in Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge. This is part of the Alphabet with a twist series and the rules state that X needs to be anywhere in the word or the primary photo subject needs to be shaped like the letter X. My twenty eight month old son has recently been introduced to alphabets. He is just not fond of maintaining the correct sequence in getting to know the alphabets. He simply chooses an alphabet as per his preference based on either color or shape.
This evening when I was mentioning the uniqueness of this photo challenge to my husband, I was surprised to see my toddler pick up the letter ‘X’ from his alphabets set to hand it over to us. As I captured his moment of excited participation through my lens, it was also a sad reminder of the fact that he is indeed growing up too fast way too soon.
