Weekly Photo Challenge – Favorite Place

The topic for Weekly Photo Challenge this week is Favorite Place. The idea is to share an image of our happy place, a secret spot we love, or a faraway location we return to again and again.

The first picture is that of the area covering a bookshelf in my bedroom. Having lived out of my suitcase for almost sixteen years owing to education and then job assignments, the only constant companion that I had throughout were books. Whether I stayed in a hostel or as a paying guest or in rented apartments, there was always a bookshelf stacked with books that I loved reading. Whenever I moved cities, I always had the movers & packers pick them up and deliver them back home in Bengal, India.

Two years back when I moved back to Kolkata for good, I was pleasantly surprised to see that my father safeguarded my entire collection in various cabinets and bookshelves in our apartment. With a barely few month old baby then, the distance from the bedroom to any of the rooms felt like kilometres together. Thus this bookshelf was built-in a corner of my bedroom. The books are handpicked by me and each of the shelves has an assigned genre like new collection, regional books (Bengali in my case), humor, classics, crime and thrillers and so on. This space is extremely personal and close to my heart. Irrespective of my emotional state, this corner has never failed to give me happiness and comfort.

Weekly photo challenge – A Face in the Crowd

This weeks prompt for Daily Post Weekly Photo Challenge is A Face in the Crowd. The idea is to create an image that represents being “a face in the crowd” through exploration of silhouettes, shadows, orientation and other ways to mask the subject.

Pic 1 – This was taken at Shankarpur Beach in Bengal, India. A man facing the sea was on the stone pavement while another was walking towards it to get a closer view.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Sweet

The theme for the Weekly Photo Challenge is Sweet for the current week. As per the rules, the photo can either be of something or someone sweet. So, I thought of featuring one of the sweetest relationships in my family – the bond shared between a grandfather and his grandson.

This picture was taken in Dec 2017, when we took off for a family vacation in Mandarmoni, India. The toddler loves swings but he was scared of hurting himself due to a fall. His paternal grandpa (on the left) and maternal granddad (on the right) held his hand from both the sides while he enjoyed his ride. Their presence was enough for him to rise up and high.

Weekly Photo Challenge – Tour Guide

I stumbled upon this weekly photo challenge just a while ago. The topic for this week is Tour Guide – What do you love about where you live? I was born in the capital of Bengal – Kolkata or Calcutta as the city of Joy used to be referred to as earlier but I grew up in a small town of Bengal called Berhampore. After my plus two, I moved cities for higher education and then for job assignments but whenever I use the word home, it always means Berhampore. It still does. The town is a part of the heritage district of Murshidabad.
