Z for Zakir Khan

There couldn’t have been a better way to end this series than speaking about the king of stand-up comedy, Zakir Khan. The comedian who has immortalized the punchline ‘sakth launda’ makes humor look effortless. The content of his videos on his YouTube channel makes it fairly clear as to why he receives a standing ovation from the audience after almost every show. This writer, stand-up comedian, poet, and actor is a versatile genius. He has a unique way of delivering his jokes that are high in humor but aren’t entirely devoid of profanity. However, it is his voice modulation that makes them sound ridiculously funny.

Zakir is one of the first few artists with a huge number of shows on Amazon Prime. He is seen performing in two highly popular stand-up specials ‘Haq Se Single’ and ‘Kaksha Gyarvi’. He has also written and acted in a web series called ‘Chacha Vidhayak Hain Humare’ along with Kumar Varun. He was one of the judges in Comicstaan Season 2 and very recently, he was also invited to be a part of the show ‘One Mic Stand’ as a mentor.

There is also a sensitive and philosophical side of this multi-talented performer that manifests itself through occasional videos of him performing ‘shayari’ on his YouTube channel. It is also a delight to listen to him discussing the journey of life through the podcast of his show ‘Ummeed’ on Gaana.

This is the last post in the Blogchatter A2Z challenge, 2020 based on the theme ‘Laugh in the time of Corona’. Thank you for being a part of my April journey this year.

All the posts in this series are available here. As I say bid goodbye to this season of A2Z challenge, I leave you with this cracker of a video that is surely going to make you roll with laughter. Stay safe and take care.

Who am I? An erstwhile banker turned blogger/writer/author. Any qualifications? A Post-Graduate degree in Chemistry followed by a second Post-Graduate Diploma in Management. I completed a one-year MFA in creative writing course from the Writer's Village University, U.S. in Dec 2020. Though I must admit that I am still trying to figure out how and when I can connect all these dots. Have I done any real work? If two years in market research, six years in banking as a branch head, three-plus years of blogging, writing, and publishing a book can be considered as real work, then yes! Where do I live? After spending life like a nomad for sixteen years in Delhi, Bangalore & Mysore, I am back to where it all started from - Kolkata. My favorite things - Books, coffee, travel, food, and my five-year-old son. What is this blog about? Through Sonia's musings, I intend to explore writing in various genres, create social awareness, spread laughter, and give words to emotions. Anything for readers? You can check out my book 'Deal of Death' on Amazon Kindle. If you like fast-paced thrillers, this Detective fiction introducing the woman sleuth, Raya Ray could turn out to be your perfect weekend read.

  3. Indian stand up comedy is still in its nascent stage. It is good that you have done a series on them. Occasionally I watch Indian Stand up comedians. Zakir is one them.

  5. This was an amazing choice for the series now that people are stuck home looking for a dose of humor. And as you rightly said, it couldn’t end better without Zakir Khan featuring in the concluding post. He is a precious gem in not just comedy but in the entertainment industry.

  6. His shows are not devoid of profanity. And as he says in one of his videos, should never be attended along with children. His delivery of the punchline is so measured and effective. Thank you for introducing me to a lot to stand up comedy acts that I didn’t know. During this lockdown, your posts have really helped me laugh a lot. Thanks a lot for that. A brilliant end to a humourous series. I’ll keep checking in as soon you upload new posts. Take care. Do keep writing. It was lovely to count you as a part of my A2Z community.

  14. Absolutely love Zakir. I was in the audience during this. It was called AIB Diwas and it had been such an amazing experience. He had just started comedy that time I think and we hadn’t been able to stop laughing! He wasn’t supposed to have so much stage time but his story kept going and we kept laughing.

    1. Wow, I’m so insanely jealous of you. I was supposed to attend his show in Kolkata a couple of months ago. It got cancelled because of the pandemic. I have heard that he’s a vibrant performer. Hopefully, I will catch him live someday.
