A whole month of no blog posts, no social media updates and endless days spent in anticipation. That’s how life changed from the beginning of September when the surgeon declared Baba needed to undergo surgery on September 30th.

Suddenly life was all about visits to hospitals, diagnostic centres, getting his tests done, collecting his test reports. How fast life moved on from my son’s grades to my father’s innumerable test stats. Even the kid’s birthday celebration was low-key though we planned a little surprise for him at home.

The surgery was successful but there were post-operative health complications to be dealt with. He developed health issues that took another couple of weeks to resolve. Three weeks later, the recovery process set in. And a month later, by the grace of Durga Ma, he’s doing better though it might take another month before life gets back to normal.

Baba’s operation and my son’s upcoming exams made us stay back in Kolkata this year during Durga Puja – a rare first since we always try to go to Berhampore to spend Puja with family.

It was a new and thrilling experience to tackle the sea of people and go pandal hopping instead of catching up with the famous Kolkata pujas on television. And of course, there was some delicious food involved.

Physically exhausted and mentally burnt out – that’s how it felt initially but the puja vibes eventually healed us. Instead of the usual Saptami anjali, it was Navami anjali for me this year. We even ate bhog on Mahashtami.

And that’s how most of September and October have been for me and my family. I hope to return to active blogging, writing, social media and work very soon.

This was just a sneak peek into our Durga Puja adventures this year. Subho Bijoya to you and your family.
