Restaurant review – Chili’s Grill and Bar, Quest Mall, Kolkata

Almost all the restaurants located within Quest Mall look lucrative enough to us for repeated visits. Last weekend we decided to try out an American – Continental kind of lunch and that is how we decided on Chili’s Grill and Bar. When I tried making a prior reservation over the phone, I was informed that seats will be available around the time we were planning to visit and thus we just walked in on a Saturday. The place was quite full. Located on the fourth floor of the mall, the restaurant has a very welcoming look and feel and we were instantly at ease.

Ambiance – The lady at the desk outside the restaurant escorted us within and in no time we were attended to by another staff. The restaurant has a portion dedicated to the bar and other portion is mainly for family audience. We opted for a seat inside instead of our usual choice of being seated by the glass panes The view from the the restaurant is mesmerizing. The restaurant has an urban chic look and feel about it.  The lighting and the music played set the correct tempo to an already fine dining experience. Seating arrangement is well spaced out and is a mix of sofas, chairs and high chairs. We also had the facility of getting a kids chair for our toddler. The ambiance is perfect for families and couples while the bar area has the suitable ambiance for enjoying with friends.

The arrangements within

Food – They have a wide range of items. Infact it gets a little difficult to choose from the tempting options. We tried out alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Watermelon mojito is what I opted for. The quantity served is huge. It was slightly tangy and suited my taste buds. For the main course, we settled on blackened fish and roasted red pepper chicken. Blackened fish was basically bhetki fillet grilled and served with rice and boiled veggies. It tasted decent but nothing extraordinary. Roasted red pepper chicken was grilled chicken breast covered with cheese and had red pepper cream sauce as topping. They usually serve this with rice and steamed broccoli. I chose french fries instead of rice. The dish was delicious. I would definitely recommend this to all chicken lovers. The grilling of the chicken just perfect. For the dessert, we ordered Chocolate Chip Paradise Pie which was basically a layer of chocolate chips and walnuts topped with vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and nuts. We couldn’t have had a better finish than this. The dish tasted heavenly. Quantity of items served are in moderate portions. While the chicken item and dessert totally delighted us, the fish was sort of a let down. We have had better tasting fish dishes before. Considering the fact that this item came under the few selected ones displayed as signature dishes, I would say that it was a little disappointing for us.

Service – Staffs are extremely warm and friendly. I would rate this in one of the top five kid friendly restaurants in the city.  The lady who attended to us ensured to check with us about our toddlers’ food preferences and only then recommended the dessert. She went an extra mile by checking up with us repeatedly if he enjoyed his food. Staffs are polite, courteous and really make a customer feel welcome. Food is served quite fast and can be customized to an extent. Overall service is exemplary.

Pricing – Pricing is a little on the higher side. Considering the taste and quality, it can still be justified. However the inadequate quantities makes it come across as a tad steep.

My rating across parameters would be –

Ambiance – 5

Food – 4

Service – 5

Pricing – 4

Overall – 4.5

In a nutshell, this is a fabulous place to visit with friends and family. The welcoming atmosphere, extraordinary service and fantastic range of lip smacking food items available add up to a great dining experience. I definitely intend to go back soon again to try out few more alluring items on the menu.

Who am I? An erstwhile banker turned blogger/writer/author. Any qualifications? A Post-Graduate degree in Chemistry followed by a second Post-Graduate Diploma in Management. I completed a one-year MFA in creative writing course from the Writer's Village University, U.S. in Dec 2020. Though I must admit that I am still trying to figure out how and when I can connect all these dots. Have I done any real work? If two years in market research, six years in banking as a branch head, three-plus years of blogging, writing, and publishing a book can be considered as real work, then yes! Where do I live? After spending life like a nomad for sixteen years in Delhi, Bangalore & Mysore, I am back to where it all started from - Kolkata. My favorite things - Books, coffee, travel, food, and my five-year-old son. What is this blog about? Through Sonia's musings, I intend to explore writing in various genres, create social awareness, spread laughter, and give words to emotions. Anything for readers? You can check out my book 'Deal of Death' on Amazon Kindle. If you like fast-paced thrillers, this Detective fiction introducing the woman sleuth, Raya Ray could turn out to be your perfect weekend read.
