Announcing the release of my new book – ‘The Sanyasi who became a King’, which also marks my debut in the nonfiction genre.
The Sanyasi who became a King
Represented by The Book Bakers and published by Sristhi Publishers, this is the true story behind the mystery of the Bhawal Raja set in pre-Independent India.
Here’s a small synopsis of the book –
May 1909: Ramendra Narayan Roy, the second King of the Bhawal estate, dies under mysterious circumstances in Darjeeling. Twelve years later, an ash-covered sanyasi resembling the deceased King is seen. The King’s family rejoices, but his wife, Bibhabati, refuses to accept the man as her husband. With support from the British government – which does not want the man to reclaim his lost power and wealth for selfish reasons – she demands proof! Was the Sanyasi a fraud? If he was the real King, then whose body was cremated in Darjeeling? What role did Bibhabati’s brother play in this mysterious death? The Sanyasi Who Became a King is a true murder mystery set in pre-Independent India that highlights the intricacies of raw emotions, relationships, power, money and betrayal.

About the evening of Jan 5th – The author session hosted by ‘Readwithus’ Book Club in association with Kolkata Bookworms at the Storyteller Bookstore turned out to be a vibrant and lively event where I met and interacted with a bunch of young and curious minds.

I ended up signing a good number of copies, posing with my readers and giving a few interviews as well.
For the last few days, I’ve been hinting at some surprise announcements before we wrap the year.
So here’s the big reveal. Presenting to you the COVER of my next book ‘The Sanyasi who became a King’. Based on true facts and research, it is the story behind the mystery of the Bhawal Raja. This book is extremely special not only because it is my second book of 2024, but also since it marks my debut into the non-fiction true crime genre.
The sanyasi who became a king
I began working on this book after some intense brainstorming sessions with Suhail of The Book Bakers. When the idea was pitched to Arup of Sristhi Publishers, he encouraged us to turn it into reality.
For the next few months, I read up all the materials available about the case along with background research about Bhawal Raja and sanyasi. Though I was very clear about keeping the facts and sequence of events intact, the challenge was to ensure it didn’t read like a research thesis.

It is with great pleasure that I announce the availability of this fast-paced Raya Ray thriller as an e-book on Amazon.
For international readers, those who relocate frequently, or individuals who prefer expedited delivery, the e-book version is now available for you to read.
I would appreciate it if you could leave a rating and review on the same link after finishing the book. Your thoughts on Raya’s latest adventure would be valuable.
There’s always something special about the ‘firsts’ in our lives. So, it’s quite natural that I’m on cloud nine with this wonderful and detailed review of my book ‘Diary, deceit, and Death’ which captures the essence of the story quite meticulously.
The first rating
Thank you reader for such a balanced perspective on the story.
Hello! My second book in the Detective Raya Ray series has started reaching its readers and they can’t stop gushing over its gorgeous cover. Most of them have started reading their copies, while some are waiting for it to be delivered.
I thought of making a video on who I am, especially for those who are new to my writing journey.
Here’s me talking about my journey as an author and what ‘Diary, Deceit, and Death’ is about.

The author’s copies of ‘Diary, Deceit, and Death’ arrived last evening. It feels surreal to hold the book, an outcome of my passion turned into a profession. Coincidentally, 7 years ago on the same day(13th Sep), I started my writing journey with the blog soniasmusings.com
An active blog, innumerable articles, a handful of research write-ups, and two Raya Ray adventures later, I can look back and say I’m glad I took the plunge.
While I was both excited and emotional looking at the set, the child behind the camera couldn’t wait for me to stop speaking because he had something to say about the book as well. So, don’t miss the ending for he has a message for all my readers.
The unboxing video
And I must mention Suhail from The Book Bakers for designing a gorgeous cover and finding one of the best publishing houses, Vishwakarma Publications for my book. Vishal Soni Sir and his team are a delight to work with.
And if you haven’t ordered the book yet, I think you should immediately click on the link below to get your copy of this past-paced thriller –
